Inflammation is our bodies defense mechanism. When the body activates your immune system because of a foreign stimuli, it sends out inflammatory cells to begin the healing process. These inflammatory cells attack bacteria or heal damaged tissue.
- Unfortunately if your body sends out inflammatory cells when you are not sick or injured, you may have chronic inflammation. Millions of people deal with Chronic Inflammation on a regular basis.
Some of the most common signs of chronic inflammation include:
- Body discomfort
- joint stiffness
- tendonitis and
- muscle pain
- sleep disorders like insomnia
- sleep apnea
- persistent fatigue
- weight gain
- unexplained weight loss
Two Types of Inflammation are Acute Inflammation and Chronic inflammation
- Acute inflammation: This is when our bodies have a sudden damage, such as cutting your finger. To heal the cut, your body sends inflammatory cells to the injury. These cells start the healing process.
- Chronic inflammation: This is when your body continues sending inflammatory cells even when there is no outside danger. For example, in rheumatoid arthritis inflammatory cells and substances attack joint tissues leading to an inflammation that comes and goes and can cause severe damage to joints with pain and deformities.
What are the symptoms of acute and chronic inflammation?
Acute inflammation may cause:
- Flushed skin at the site of the injury.
- Pain or tenderness.
- Swelling.
- Heat.
Sometimes Chronic Inflammation symptoms are harder to spot than acute inflammation symptoms. Signs of chronic inflammation can include:
- Abdominal pain.
- Chest pain.
- Fatigue. (example: systemic lupus)
- Fever. (example: tuberculosis)
- Joint pain or stiffness. (example: rheumatoid arthritis)
- Mouth sores. (example: HIV infection)
- Skin rash. (example: psoriasis
Omega-3 fatty acids , which are abundant in fatty fish such as salmon or tuna, are among the most potent anti-inflammatory supplements. These supplements may help fight several types of inflammation, including vascular inflammation. Vascular inflammation is a significant risk factor for heart disease and heart attack.
Vitamins That Can Help Fight Inflammation:
- Vitamin A& B
- Vitamins.
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin E
- Vitamin K
What are some deficiencies that causes inflammation?
Vitamin D deficiency has a causative role in the systemic inflammation that commonly accompanies it, with inflammation declining, reflected by reductions in elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), as vitamin D levels increase to normal levels, new research shows.
- How do I rid my body of inflammation? Lifestyle changes can improve or even get rid of inflammation. You just have to want to do it and stick to the plan.
- Eat anti-inflammatory foods: avocado, berries, tomatoes, cherries, turmeric, mushrooms, salmon and fatty fish, lentils, kale, dark chocolate and cocoa, broccoli, grapes, chili peppers, bell peppers, chia seeds
- Quit smoking
- Limit or avoid alcohol
- Avoid inflammatory foods: refined carbohydrates and processed foods are the biggest culprit
- Eating more whole, minimally processed foods (instead of less nutritious, processed ones).
- Stress management
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Exercise regularly
- Essential Oils: My favourite anti-inflammatory essential oils are Frankincense, Turmeric, Deep Blue, and Copaiba. Check out my favs

- Supplementing: We can't get what we need from food anymore so it is important to supplement. Check out my favs
