
What are hormones
Hormones are chemical messengers traveling throughout your body to keep your organs functioning correctly. When your hormones are out of whack it can affect different areas of the body:
- Metabolism
- Sleep Cycle
- Growth
- Development
- Sexual function
- Reproduction
- Mood
Generally if one area is out of whack, it affects all of them. So if you can help one area of the body you might do your whole body good.
If you are sleeping well, you have glowing skin, lots of energy, great mood and off course a healthy metabolism you generally don't have any hormone issues.
Hormones play a significant role in your metabolism, which is why unexpected weight loss or weight gain signals an issue or imbalance. Your hormones are balanced if you're at a healthy weight and have no problems gaining or losing weight on your own. This is where hypothyroidism comes into play in a lot of women over 40. Your thyroid gland doesn't make enough thyroid hormones to meet your aging body and its needs, which then in turn affects your energy and your whole body.
Symptoms of Hormones out of whack
Here are some symptoms that might mean you Hormones are imbalanced:
- Weight loss or weight gain
- Extreme fatigue
- Thinning hair
- Acne breakouts
- Irregular periods

Our lifestyle can also play a huge role in how your hormones affect your body. Daily habits like exercising, and eating a nutritious diet (whole foods 80% of the time) rich is protein and fiber can help naturally balance your hormones, especially over 40.
Your body typically produces the precise amount of each hormone needed for various processes to keep you healthy, but a sedentary lifestyles and Western dietary patterns may affect your hormonal environment drastically.
Some suggestions to improve your hormones:
- whole foods 80% of your diet
- sleep 7-9 hours a day
- fasting
- essential oils to help with hormones, sleep, hypothyroidism
- macro tracking: know what your body needs
- move 8000-10000 steps per day
- strength training 3 x per week
- HIIT workouts 2 x per week
