Tips you need to know: 7 Tips to Grocery Shopping

I am a health and fitness coach for women over 35. I know it can be tough to find time to grocery shop when you have busy schedules, you are juggling family, sports, and work but it is super important you make time. I love to use my Plan to Eat App to help me plan out my week and grocery list. Check it out here.

Grocery shopping can feel overwhelming at times, but if you go with a plan, you will be fine. Busy schedules also affect how we shop so try and have it scheduled in your calendar each week. I like shopping Sunday or Monday mornings because then as I put it away I can meal prep for the week.

Here are a few tips I like to go by:

- always have a plan, that means always take a grocery list.
- don't go when you are hungry: you will buy things you shouldn't.
- focus on whole foods
- main focus should be protein: how am I going to get 120 g of protein in a day. Chose easily accessible proteins like protein powder, roaster chickens (from Costco already made), eggs, canned tuna etc.
- Think GREEN, fill you cart with lots of green leafy vegetables and colorful fruits. You want to reach 25 g of fiber per day for women and 35 g for men so the more nutritious the fruit or vegetable generally the more fiber content.
- stock your freezer with frozen fruits and vegetables to have on hand for quick and easy meals. I usually have a smoothie each day, and I love have something quick to grab if I haven't made it grocery shopping.
- stick to the perimeter of the grocery store. Most whole foods will be around the store in the fresh, and refrigerated sections.
