Laundry Soap DIY

This months theme is Spring Cleaning and Toxic removal in our homes so I thought I would share my favorite homemade laundry detergent recipes. I have been using essential oils for over three years now and what I have learned is that I love to make my own products from scratch. 1) because I already have the essential oils so I might as well use them up 2) removing toxins in my home is so important to me 3) because it is sooooo easy.

Why Should you Make the Switch?

Conventional laundry detergents are typically loaded with all kinds of questionable ingredients. You may think it doesn’t matter since you’re only washing your clothes but we wear clothes all day so we are putting those chemicals on our body, breathing them in and they are also harmful for the environment.

Doing the laundry can be very expensive, especially when you are buying natural products. It's important to go NATURAL because there are so many toxic chemicals in most products in the grocery stores so next time, instead of buying your soap at your local grocery store, why not try making it yourself. If you aren't a DIY'er try doTERRA's Onguard Landry Soap - it's amazing.

I like to have three options for laundry. 1) dirty, greasy clothes (I use doTERRA's) 2) linen, I use Serenity or Lavender essential oil 3) everything else I use Wild Orange or Citrus Bliss because they smell divine.

If you want to venture out and DIY here are the recipes.  It is not only easy to make, it’s also really cost effective. Try it and experience the benefits today! Comment below with how you liked it.

How to Make Homemade Laundry Soap
Powder Laundry Soap

INGREDIENTS:

- 1 bar grated castile soap
- 2 cups washing soda
- 1 cup baking soda
- 30 drops lavender, wild orange, citrus bliss or serenity (or anything you want really. Just try and use an oil that is a cleanser).

Directions:

Shave the castile soap with a cheese grader (super easy). Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container. I like to use 1/4 cup per large load (adjust accordingly, especially for high-efficiency washers, for which you may want to wait until the water runs through soap dispenser).
